Pilot License Validation

For us to be able to start the process of validating your foreign pilot license in order to get a foreign based South African pilot license, we need to provide information to the South African CAA. Please fill in this form completely in order for us to be able to move forward. Once this information is processed by us and the South African CAA, you will have to do an Air Law theory exam and a check ride with an instructor once you arrive in South Africa. After that, the South African CAA still needs several (working) days to process the results and issue you the license. Please take that into consideration when makaing your travel plans.

General

We can only process pilot licenses for guests on our own (previous) tours. In order for us to be able to process your application for either a South African Foreign-based PPL pilot license or an EASA PPL license and to be able to provide the required information to the CAA, we need all the requested information on this form to be provided in full. We kindly request you to submit this form only once and only when you can provide all the information in full. Be accurate with the information provided as the information is forwarded – as is – to the South African authorities and insurance companies.
The South African 28 day license cannot be renewed, but does not require you to do an Air Law exam. A 5 year South African license can be renewed easily after 5 years without having to do another check ride or exam. For the initial 5 year foreign-based license, you need to do (also) an Air Law theory exam. A European pilot license consists of a 28-day EASA holiday license linked to one specific aircraft to fly and can be issued once per year. There is also an option to get a full EASA PPL license which in some cases (if you have an American FAA license, e.g.) does not involve any written exams and which stays valid for multiple flying tours in Europe and different aircraft.

Pilot-in-Command (PIC) time*
Please select each of the aircraft types in which you have PIC time of at least 1.5 to 2 hours and which time is recorded in your logbook. In South Africa, the CAA looks at each aircraft model as a separate type. In Europe and the US a class rating is used and it contains all the aircraft within its class. For you to be able to fly a rental aircrft in Southern Africa, you need to have flown that specific aircraft model before as PIC or, alternatively, you have to do a familiarisation training in South Africa on arrival.

Medical

Basic med is not enough to fly in Southern Africa. You need to have a valid medical other than the basic med.
Most likely the date of your last medical examination or when your current medical was issued.
When does your current medical expire? If you have a class 1 and class 2 medical expiry date, you can select the class 2 expiry date.
