The Ultimate Air Safari Tour: SA, Namibia & Botswana April 8 – May 5, 2027

This grand tour of 3,5 weeks starts with a flight from Johannesburg to the Timbavati Private Game Reserve in the Greater Kruger National Park. This tour includes not only the Kruger area for a multi-day safari in the Timbavati, but will bring you to the Wild Coast with its waterfalls falling into the ocean and its whales. In Cape Town we will visit its highlights such as Table Mountain but also taste wines at some of the famous wineries in and around Stellenbosch. From Cape Town we will be flying up north to Namibia to visit the Fish River Canyon, the sand dunes of Sossusvlei, the lost town of Kolmanskop, Windhoek and the small strip of land once called the Caprivi strip just north of Botswana. From there you will fly to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe before flying southbound again for a safari near the Okavango Delta in Moremi Game Reserve, Botswana and in a private game reserve in the southern part of Botswana before heading back to Johannesburg.

Price all-in per person based on room sharing, excluding aircraft rental and fuel/avgas costs.

If you have an EASA or FAA pilot license, we will assist you in getting your pilot license converted to a South African validated PPL license. The validation process is straightforward and includes mostly paperwork, one theory exam in South African Air law and a check ride with a local flight instructor once you arrive in South Africa. In addition, we will find you a suitable aircraft to rent for this trip. We can also arrange a safety pilot to come with you, but if you know how to fly your aircraft at home, there will be no problem in doing the same in Africa. We will be flying along as well in a support aircraft and will give a full flight and weather briefing each morning. We are there to make the whole process as hassle-free as possible.

If you do not have a pilot license, you can fly along as passenger.

RETURN DATE/TIME The tour ends on May 5th, 2027, after breakfast about 15 minutes drive from OR Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg area, South Africa.
SELF-FLY OPTION* Total flying distance: 4445 NM | Approximate total flying time: 43:00 hours (C172), 42:30 hours (C182/C206) | Flying time needed for check ride with South African instructor including overland: approx. 2:00 - 3:30 hrs. All aircraft owners charge block times from off-blocks to on-blocks.
GROUP SIZE This tour is limited to a maximum of 5-6 participating aircraft or 10-15 participants, excluding the support aircraft with the guides coming along on the tour.
WEAR Comfortable clothing suitable for safari and travel. Informal dinner attire for first few dinner nights in Cape Town. Good walking shoes if you want to participate in guided bush walks. Bring a hat or cap to protect against the sun.
ACCOMMODATION We will be staying in luxury safari lodges as well as in a luxury tented safari camps. In Kruger National Park you will be sleeping in a tented camp on high-quality stretcher beds with proper linen and blankets, which allows you to experience the real African bush.
GUIDES At least 2 guides will be embedded and coming along on this tour in their own support aircraft. The guides have extensive knowledge of the African bush and are both bush pilots with experience of flying in Africa. Most of the lodges have their own professional field guides with local knowledge who will join us on the game drives.  You will have the best possible people around you to answer any questions that you may have.
PACKAGE TRIP Lodging and associated lodge safaris and all the basic food and first drinks in most safari lodges is included. Special drinks like expensive wines or whiskey is usually not. At our tented camps, we provide all the food and drinks. At some lodges and hotels, the food and drinks are not included. No flights, other air transportation or optional activities, extra meals and drinks or lunches are a part of the offer. Aircraft rental, aviation fuel, aircraft overflight and landing permits/fees are not included. Aircraft owners charge from off-block to on-block (block time).

*Safaris, game drives and guided bush walks are normally a part of the lodging arrangement in Africa and as such included in the Tour price.  When we provide a tented camp or 4x4 safari drive in Moremi Game Reserve, we will provide for food and drinks. The safari lodges are usually offered full-board including the meals and a first drink at dinner. Extra drinks, room service orders, exclusive champagnes, wines and spirits and some of the lunches are excluded from the all-in price. At normal hotels, dinner, drinks and mini-bar expenses are usually not included. The options (optional activities offered) are not a part of our tour offer price, nor are they a mandatory element of our tour. The options are available but have to be paid to the local operator offering the specific activity by credit card or in cash in Rand or US$. As for aircraft rentals, we provide you with the needed information about the aircraft owner willing to rent out their South African registered aircraft to you or to us as African Flying Adventures, so that you can arrange a direct rental agreement with them, or you rent an aircraft directly through us. All charge from off blocks to on blocks. If you wish to rent directly from another aircraft owner, it is to be approved by us first. We will make the arrangement for the pilot license validation and assist you in the validation of your EASA or FAA pilot license into a South African validated license. If you don't have a South African (foreign based) pilot license yet, you need to allow for an extra 3-5 working days prior to the start of the tour to allow you to do the air law theory exam, the check ride, the South African CAA to process and issue your license and to pick up your rental aircraft.
